A Website Builder for Retirees Who Don't Speak "Tech"

October 18, 2026by Bill Feaverin Life and Lessons

If you're retired and want a website, a blog, or a small online business without fighting your computer every step, HBA's new website builder is worth a look. On October 12, 2026, I watched Mike Hobbs and Paul Hutchings build it live in front of more than 100 people. Here are the nine things it does in plain English, and who each one is for.

This post is for you if you're retired or getting close and tech makes you nervous. It's not for you if you want a magic button that does everything while you nap. No tool does that, and I won't pretend this one does.

Why a retired farmer and teacher is writing about website builders

I'm retired. I spent years running a commercial ag-spraying business with my brother, then taught at-risk teenagers on a juvenile justice campus.

Those kids taught me something I've never forgotten: don't blow smoke. Say what you mean and do what you said. So that's how I'll write this.

When I retired, I didn't want to sit in front of the television all day. I wanted something to do, something to learn, and people to meet. That's how I found The Home Business Academy about five years ago. I've been with them ever since.

I'm not a tech guy. I read, I doodle ink drawings, I greet people at church, and I run the barbecue at events. If I can follow along with this builder, you probably can too.

The new builder's 9 features at a glance

Here's the short version for skimmers:

  1. Create your own sites: as many as you need
  2. AI Agent + BYOAI: use HBA's AI or bring your own
  3. Import any page: from a web address or from code you made with AI
  4. Membership sites: with a social community built in
  5. Blogs: write, fix and format posts in a click
  6. Evergreen webinars: automated webinars that run on their own (Premium)
  7. Affiliate program: let others promote your products for a commission (Premium)
  8. Share funnels: hand a finished funnel to someone else
  9. Directory sites: build listings and directories

HBA's headline on the replay said it best: everything the old builder did, improved, plus all of this.

What each feature means if you're retired

1. Create as many websites as you need

With the old setup, you got one domain. If you wanted another, you had to send a support ticket. Now you can build as many sites as you need.

Why it matters: most of us have more than one interest. I've published three coloring books of my doodle art. That could be its own little website, separate from anything else I do.

2. AI Agent + BYOAI (Bring Your Own AI)

You can use HBA's built-in AI agent, or bring the one you already use, like ChatGPT or Claude.

Why it matters: if your grandkids already got you comfortable with ChatGPT, you don't have to start over with something new. Use what you know.

3. Import any page

Already have a page somewhere else? You can bring it in from its web address. You can also paste in code from a page you made with AI.

Why it matters: you don't lose work you've already done. That matters when every hour at the computer feels like it was hard to earn.

4. Membership sites with a built-in community

You can build a members-only site, and it comes with its own social community.

Why it matters: think about a Bible study group, a class you want to teach, or a club that meets online. After years in the classroom, I know how much a group's own private space can mean.

5. Blogs that write, fix and format in a click

You can write a post, clean it up, and have it formatted automatically.

Why it matters: I'm a published author. I contributed to Teaching Hope through the Freedom Writers Foundation. I can tell you the writing was never the hard part. Fiddling with how a page looks was. This feature handles that part.

6. Evergreen webinars (Premium)

These are automated webinars that run on their own. You record once, and it plays for people on their schedule.

Why it matters: you don't have to be on camera every night. You get your evenings back for dinner with family.

Note: this is a Premium feature.

7. Your own affiliate program (Premium)

If you sell something of your own, other people can promote it for you and earn a commission.

Why it matters: say you've written a book or made a course. Friends who believe in it can help spread the word and get rewarded for it.

Note: this is also a Premium feature.

8. Share funnels

You can hand a finished funnel (a set of pages that walks someone toward a next step) to members and prospects.

Why it matters: this is the one that warms my heart. It means you can help someone else get started without them building from scratch. You get to walk beside them.

9. Directory sites

You can build listings and directories.

Why it matters: picture a directory of local farm stands, church ministries, or small businesses in your town. That's useful to a community, and it gives you a project that matters.

The honest limitations

I promised no smoke, so here it is:

  • Two of these features are Premium. Evergreen webinars and the affiliate program aren't in every plan.
  • It's a tool, not a miracle. You still have to show up, learn a little, and take small steps.
  • I haven't built with all nine yet. I'm learning right alongside you.

If you're already an HBA member: the old builder sunsets November 1st. The replay walks you through the steps at the 32:44 mark, so don't wait on this one.

Questions retirees ask me

Do I need to be good with computers?

No. You need to be willing to learn a little at a time. The founders are on live coaching calls five days a week, so you're never stuck alone.

Can I really have more than one website?

Yes. That's one of the biggest changes from the old builder.

What does "BYOAI" mean?

Bring Your Own AI. If you already use ChatGPT or Claude, you can use it inside the builder.

What does "Premium" mean on some features?

Evergreen webinars and the affiliate program are part of HBA's Premium membership, not the basic plan.

Is this a scam?

I understand why you'd ask, because I've been burned in business before too. HBA has been around more than 10 years, with the same founders the whole time, and it holds a 5.0 average rating from 215+ reviews. I've been a member for five years. That's my honest answer.

Where to go from here

If this sparked something and you want to see how other people are putting these tools to work, you can take a free tour of the Turnkey Residual Income System. You'll see the whole thing, and you can even ask questions of Sage, the AI that answers prospects 24/7. You'll also get a free ebook, Residual Income Shortcuts, which explains why most home businesses have it backwards.

I earn a commission if you join through my link. Your price stays the same.

Retirement doesn't have to mean sitting still. Learn one new thing. Then another.

Just keep moving forward.
