Welcome to My 5-Tree Orchard: Why I Only Need 5 at 79

My goal this season is 5. Not 50. Not 500. Five.

I'm Bill Feaver, I'm 79, and this blog is where I'll show you, week by week, how I'm building an online business by planting five good trees instead of chasing an army of recruits.

If you've worked your warm market until nobody picks up the phone, posted every day to crickets, or just hate feeling pushy, I'm writing for you.

My brother and I farmed vineyards and orchards in California for over 30 years. An orchard teaches patience. You don't plant a tree on Monday and pick fruit on Friday. You plant well, you water, you graft, and you let the seasons do their work.

Farming taught me something else most network marketers learn the hard way: you can't keep harvesting the same field without replenishing it. When our home ground was worked out, we leased fresh ground. Your friends and family are your home field. If they've stopped answering, it's time to step onto fresh ground, with people who are already looking for what you have.

1. Plant: bring on 5 people who genuinely want consistent leads.
2. Water: help each of them set up their own lead flow.
3. Graft: teach them to do the same with their own 5.
4. Harvest: let the orchard grow row by row, season by season.

An orchard isn't built in a weekend, and I won't pretend otherwise. You'll see the slow weeks here right along with the good ones.

I've been married to my high school girlfriend for 53 years. We moved from California to Illinois to be near our daughter, her husband and our grandson. I spent 22 years teaching at-risk teenagers at a juvenile justice campus, and in 2006 Erin Gruwell asked me to be the first teacher to go through the Freedom Writer training. Those kids taught me a rule I still live by: do what you say, and don't blow smoke.

I've also lost crops to weather, sold ranches to pay debts, and come through cancer. I didn't retire to sit and watch television all day. I'm here to stay useful, keep learning, and meet good people along the way.
